Interplanetary GO!

Everything is an adaptation of its former self. For me, the beautiful aspect of living on this planet is we're not the first and we wont be the last. I find it fascinating that we are merely a part of a huge history.
I'm sure nobody thought about that 50 years ago when they were just struggling to make improvements in their own societies and make better lives for there families. Just like we now find it very hard to picture the world without us in it, years from now.
I believe that is why its such a struggle to get people to care about the environment, or the long term affects we're going to have on the planet. I think we're all a little in denial about the world one day having past us, and continuing without us in it.
It is (or should be) completely human nature to view the world as an environment in which we play the Protagonist. How do we plan for a world that we are not a part of? I guess people buy life insurance and caskets and all of those things. But those are all assurances for close loved ones. How do we make sense of giving a damn about a planet that we will have no relations to? 100 years is a blink in the grand scheme of things. But when you think of it as all the time we get on the planet, to accomplish our entire life, it seems to go by even faster

I suppose this blog is a means of me getting my thoughts out of my own head, to better make sense of them. So realistically this is an attempt to help myself, Isn't everything though? I used to spend a lot of time feeling guilty for things that I thought were selfish, but at the end of the day nobody has you're interests at heart, so you sort of have to.*
Look at it like when you had to help your little brother or sister with the hard levels on Mario (Or in the case of my brother, your older sister) When they finally got through the whole game, you wouldn't dare take that sense of accomplishment away from them by reminding them that they wouldn't be there without you.
We are often the protagonist but sometimes that is not as important as we might think. Sometimes things mean more to other people, and we need to be ready to play a side part in the lives of our loved ones as well as the star of our own life. We often forget, we are merely the star of our own life. Not life as we know it.
Check out Me to We: We live the Change. A site about turning our "me" attitude into a "we" attitude and see what an amazing difference people are making around the world. This is a very well put together site of blogs and photos about people making a real difference in the world. If nothing else it makes me happy to read about humanity in a positive light once in awhile.

*a year ago, a more cynical version of myself would have just called it a new age Darwinian (that is a word right?) society, of people surviving on characteristics that make them adaptable to their environment, and obstacles.
