Baby

Everyone self medicates.
If you've had a bad day, and you grab your favorite greasy fast food.
I love a JBC meal from Wendy's with a Large full sugar root beer, with Chili Cheese Fries. There is something very satisfying about eating something extra delicious and extra bad for you.
Who hasn't come home from a particularly disheartening shift at work and rush to a joint, a tall, neat whiskey, or a large glass of red wine.
Tons of women, and men, act like bitchy little children, at some (admittedly humiliating) moment in their life. Almost everyone has drawn on the differences of another person, and made cruel fun of them, to compensate for their own insecurities and hang ups, at the expense of another person.
That's not even to mention all the cocaine and hardcore street drugs drifting around most communities these days.
I do have to say, I believe that hard drugs would be an exponentially smaller an issue if marijuana was legalized and our Canadian Criminal Code, and Justice Systems were reformed to reflect that of a working, productive society. Nevertheless, The situation is what it is.
People still smoke cigarettes. This used to absolutely confound me, although I know understand it for what it is. The only single loophole for which service staff  are able to walk away from a service job shift for 10 minutes and breath.
I now at least appreciate how people could smoke.
I was recently told that France has way more Smokers than The U.S, but on average the people there are much healthier. They attribute the difference to Diet. With rampant obesity on the rise, it's not news that food is a drug to a lot of us, and abused actively and aggressively.
My name is April. and I'm addicted to food.
Alcohol kills foolish amounts of people between impaired drivers and personal alcohol abuse.
Even worse than that is how many legally obtained Prescription Drugs are abused by either their intended, or an unintended user, every single day in Canada.
How many people standing at that Methadone Clinic, you look down your nose at, as you drive to work, are in line because at , they got they hurt, and saw a lazy doctor who was too willing to write a prescription to a hard working good person.
Everyone has pain that they are dealing with. or not dealing with.
This bears repeating.
Every single person has known pain.
If you were bullied, or had less than perfect parents. If you had a toxic, dishonest, self destructive relationship, that left you very insecure. If you struggle with Depression, Anxiety, Loss, Fear or Pain of any kind, it is very unfortunate that you went through that.
Getting through pain, is not an easy thing to do.
You, however, are not special.
Everyone goes through struggles, it's on you to work through it and get over it, or let it ruin your life.
Why does self destruction feel so good?
Why do we all do it.
Everyone gets to make the choices in their life, whether they are good choices that improve it, or bad choices that make their lives unnecessarily difficult.
Who could blame anyone for wanting a break from that to feel good about ourselves?
We all find ways to feel good. Especially when we don't.
So who, but the utterly arrogant, who would assume that it is their business to judge another person for the way they find, to feel good?
It's said that People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones
I just Don't think you should ever under estimate the force of the wind you're throwing them into.

Now some ask.fm Answers

These are actual answers submitted by teens and young adults to questions on Ask.fm I believe that adding positive actions to any situation makes it better so I want to highlight some of the amazing statements given to an anonymous question.

Q. What do you think of all the haters that use Ask.fm? do you pay any attention?

*They all have their own issues they need to deal with. So they take it out on other people. It's like the popular girls at school that are mean to everyone. They're insecure and think little of themselves but come down on everyone else just so they can put themselves up on a pedestal. I on the other hand don't do that. I try to be really nice to other people

Q. If you knew someone was doing wrong and hurting someone, would you reveal their identity

*yes (3)
*Probably (5)
*of course (1)

It's good to know that somewhere out there parents are still raising and taking responsibility for good children who will grow up and be good people.

Some New Ask.FM questions!

Asked by Anon at Ask.fm/HundredThousand
Q: See my best friend complains all day and I didn't say anything about it for a couple of years and then today and I told her to stop complaining and be more positive and she got all mad and now she won't talk to me or hangout with me and ugh :(
You should explain to your friend that you never wanted to hurt her feelings. That's probably why you didn't say anything all along. It's difficult to say something when you know it will likely hurt someone. Especially when it's your best friend and her feelings mean a lot to you. I've learned that it's only someone who really cares about you that will tell you the truth, even when you don't want to hear it, and everyone needs to check their attitude from time to time. I'm sure you two will work it out. Just talk to her. She can't stay mad forever.

Ask.Fm inspired post.

Ask.Fm asks:
What scares you more than anything else?

I think being alone is what I am most afraid of. Not on a day to day basis. I really enjoy spending some time alone. But my biggest fear is having every relationship not work out, and ending up alone, without love. Some relationships just don't work out. Some people are just too different or need different things out of life. It isn't anyone's fault if they aren't exactly what YOU need. As much as it really sucks a lot of the time, There is nothing you can do about that except get over it and move on. But I digress. Not having a partner, to share my life with, scares me the most.

Bully

This needs to be said.
1. Someone who is direct and honest is not a bully. Just grow up.
Someone who says something you do not want to hear, or does the right thing, even if it isn't in your best interest, is not a bully. Nobody has to say anything you want to hear at any time. You can't control what anyone else does in their life, so worry about living your life right. Not who is going to call you on it, if you chose to be an idiot or a jerk. If you are a jerk. Your actions, and words, and malicious behavior will have repercussions, but that isn't someone bullying you. that is someone not letting you bully them. Stop playing the victim. your not.
It's a naive, childish thing to call anyone who opposes you a bully. Most people will realize this when they reach actual adulthood, and stop being a child who just thinks they're all grown up (often doesn't happen until we reach our late 20's, early 30's, and sometimes it doesn't ever happen at all, sadly)
Maybe we all need to be a little more self-aware and take responsibility for our own selfish, delusional, attention starved actions before condemning the person who cares enough to put us in our place.

2. The world is mean. it isn't anyone's job to hold your hand, or make you happy, or be there for you or any of those things. If someone wants to be there, you should cherish them, not burden them with your baggage. It's your job to work out your issues and contribute to society like a normal healthy person so take responsibility for yourself.

3. Actual bullies are worthless. I recently came across a young man on Facebook. He only went to my high school in Grand Falls-Windsor for a short time and I don't even think he would remember me, while he was a friend, of a friend. This past week, this young man, was robbed and beaten within an inch of his life. A friend found him bleeding and luckily got him to medical professionals in time, actually saving his life.
The wounds sustained are horrifying. Troubled vision and movement. constant pain and so much blood loss  that he required a transfusion, upon arriving at the emergency room.
In our small city of St. John's, Newfoundland, I never thought anyone could be capable of such hatred and malicious violence.
The overkill inflicted by this beating shows a shocking amount of anger and aggression that I can't imagine feeling toward another living thing. The fact that a person with so many friends and now a facebook full of hope and kind words, could be the victim of such violence breaks my heart for our society.
Last week, in the United States, an Australian man was visiting his in-laws and was heartlessly gunned down, by 3 teenage boys. For no other reason than a remorseless and terrifying "we were bored"
Nobody should ever have to be concerned about physical violence. Only the slowest, most pathetic people, use violence as a tool, because its the only thing they understand.
They don't understand negotiating, or conversation, or anything that makes the world run properly. Lord knows they can't possibly understand taking the highroad or being the bigger person. I think that these people generally feel inadequate in some area. Maybe something going on at home, or in their relationship. A lot of bullies, are actually bullied. I can honestly say that I have never understood making someone else feel terrible, with the same actions that make you feel awful at the hand of someone else. It just doesn't make sense to me to do something that you know makes you feel like less of a person. I'm going to go out on a bit of a limb and say that they probably don't understand their own feelings. I learned while working with abused and troubled children (I worked directly in the field and received every certification available to me for 2 years) that the most important part of my job was helping people understand their own feelings and actions. Asking most children why they do anything will generally be met with
"...I don't know"

the kid isn't being a jerk. he doesn't know. he's not mature enough yet. he hasn't learned enough to understand feelings or emotional reactions. Whether it's a child in provincial care, or a grown man or woman, I'm confident in saying that they have no idea why they do the thoughtless, immature, and downright stupid things that they do.

It's such a shame that education has taken such a back burner in North America. You can almost watch our younger generations get dumber, fatter and less aware of the world every few months. Recently I watched a television judge state that he would much rather have work outsourced, out of the US, because other countries put more importance on education and qualifying their youth for proper job placement and that he trusts them to handle serious technical issues more so than his own country. Call him a bully if you want to. Say he hates America and condemn him on your precious social media. But he is not wrong.

Bookmark Added.

I just came upon what I think is a fascinating discovery. In very broad terms, this is what happens in every single fight I've ever had with the opposite sex.

I'm pissed off. and even though I'm an intelligent human being who is fully aware that I'm being insecure and am probably blatantly wrong, I don't want the blame right away.
At the moment, that I am mad, I want to feel like it is not my fault. and that everyone sucks except me. It doesn't matter what the issue is. Shut up, I know that was a yield sign. I already feel stupid. I know my friend will be my friend again in an hour. Right now it will make me feel better to hear someone else confirming that She's wrong and I'm right.

I think I realized that we don't need you to fix it. You want to fix it because in your boy brain, that seems to be the best thing to do. As far as instincts go, I personally think it's endearing to want to save or or fix something. But, in reality, when you do try to fix it, it makes us feel like we can't do it ourselves and some of us don't like that, so we get defensive, but you can't figure out why because you're just trying to help.
In our own languages, we both know whats wrong, we just have different ways of helping each other.

Now if only I understood men, this whole puzzle will be a little easier...

Show Biz for a Minute

This isn't a usual blog post for me but I think it's important for both sides to be heard.
So by now, everyone has heard that Jim Carrey had some choice words to say about his own work, and the entire production of Kick Ass 2. It seems to me that in the wake of all of the violence in schools and the horrifyingly common shooting situations that have devastated the U.S. this year, Jim Carrey didn't feel right perpetuating violence in the media. That is, at least the way I understand it to be. I could be wrong. If you care enough, just Google it. Now Chloe Grace Mortez* is saying that she doesn't agree with Carrey. In an interview with Britain's The Sun, Moretz says that while she respects Carrey's decision to snub the film, she doesn't agree with the sentiment
*Mortez plays Hit Girl, again in the sequel. She's a great actor, and I think she's probably a great hit girl but some of her habits as an actor bug me. Also her Mask looks goofy.
I find by the end of the movie, I'm sick of looking at her stupid mask. She is an absolutely stunning girl. Downright breathtaking. Grace for days (too much Seinfeld this week. apologies..)
My point is, I could easily believe that it is an attempt for Hit Girl to be taken seriously, and not as some pathetic sexual icon. I completely respect that. I really hope that is why, but you could make her mask look smart and not sexy.
Every super hero should get to look cool. It's why everyone of us would love to be a super hero. She doesn't have to be over exposed but please please let her look cool. It is such a Bad-ass character. and actually pretty well written. I really enjoyed the first movie, minus Nick Cage*. Stop wasting such an awesome character in a distracting costume. Check out the entire interview at The Sun, and see what Mortez had to say about the film and her Co star in the film. It's pretty nice to see some class and intelligence returning to Hollywood.

*Nick Cage. who I honestly believe to be in some early stage of dementia. or some kind of life crisis? I don't really know. but I feel as though he's losing his mind.

Ask Me Anything!

If you have anything that you would like to read about, or any questions. something to personal to ask someone close to you, or something about me that you want to know more about. If you've shared a similar experience or learned a lesson the hard way, share with me. Ask me anything on Ask.fm. The little box is right there on your left. Remain anonymous or make an account and join in the conversation. I set up the account to help people. Negativity never gets a reaction, but the only stupid questions are the ones you never ask. Sometimes a little bit of time (and age) teaches you a lot that you can share to help someone else. So speak up. Help yourself or someone else. I can't fix our passive, crumbling society all by myself :p

Ask.fm: Paul McCartney said: "If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian." What do you think about it?

I think Paul McCartney is an uninformed jackass. I thought he made that clear a few year ago when he showed up in the wrong province to boycott the seal hunt in Newfoundland, with completely wrong information. Oh you didn't hear about that? Check it out.

I'll be the rain, falling on your fire escape

I don't think that it's outside of anyone's basic needs to want someone to want them. At some point, living two separate lives, and keeping them separate, starts to sting a little. When someone is actively keeping the natural progression of a relationship on hold, while they live their life, and achieve all the things they want for themselves, you can't help but wonder what your even doing there at all.
It's hard to decide if that person even wants you, or if they just don't want to be alone or start over. It is however very easy to feel like your not something that is important to them when they make a decision, or take a trip, or plan huge life changes, and they don't involve you at all.
That is not to say that your partner should run everything by you. But take buying a house for example. If someone wanted to spend their life with you, and all that stuff, wouldn't they want you to see the house you'd be moving into? Wouldn't they talk to you about moving in, as buying a house is the inevitable plan. So moving out and into a new place is the end result regardless. So when a loved one is going through all these life changes and you aren't a part of it, what are you to think?
When offers are being made and houses are being seen, and all of these things are going on, and it barely even comes up in conversations, much less is the involvement of your loved ones, maybe they have to assess how you really feel about them, and if they are wasting their time, chasing a relationship that they are never going to have with you.
It's cruel and selfish to keep someone around that you aren't in love with, or planning to  live happily ever after with. You're keeping that person from ever finding that happiness with anyone else. Because you're too selfish and scared to explore any of those feelings within yourself. I can't think of a worst situation to be in. My sympathy and patience go out to all the women, and men, who are stuck in this limbo. Do you chose to live without someone you are in love with? or stay somewhere and keep waiting to feel your feelings reciprocated, without insecurity or dishonesty, and achieve the dreams you've had for most of your life. Bob Marley Said, "“The truth is, everyone is going to hurt you. You just got to find the ones worth suffering for.”
But when you have to wonder how much someone is willing to suffer for you, how can you waste the precious amount of life, that you have, suffering?

Formspring Question #11

Formspring asks: What's the bravest thing you've ever done?

I usually have a hard time deciding if the things I'm doing are brave or just really stupid.
I guess the thing that comes to mind is staying in St. John's and living on my own after my ex and I broke up.
We had been together for 3 years. I moved to the city not knowing anyone, to live with him and be with him. naturally it all fell apart. But I stayed. I had to prove to myself that i could do it on my own.
For a long time i had 2 jobs. at times 3. But for the last 5 years I've lived on my own. in my own apartment. My bills are in my name, and i'm responsible for myself. Nobody can take that away from me. Bad things happen to everyone. Too many people think it justifies them to be bitter, and dwell on things. You can't depend on anyone in this world to pick you up. it's not their job. It's yours. Everyone is responsible for their own happiness. People who dwell on bad things, and fill themselves with hate, and insecurity, never learn to trust again, and that is nobodies fault but their own. Writing this post is another one of those things, that i can't decide between Brave or Stupid on. Thank you for your question, Please keep the conversation going at HundredThousandMistakes

The only part that still irks me is he got the Wii. We bought it together and I took the bed, so all's fair. I was just really close to finishing Paper Mario Wii when shit hit the fan...

Formspring Question #8

Formspring asked:
Has your behaviour with the opposite sex led to situations which make you anxious?

No. but the behaviour of certain people (of both sexes) has certainly done its part to make me an anxious person. Lies, Deceit, and Mistreat all leave permanent scars on people. even if you cant see them. When you leave any kind of a scar on someone they never forget you. but not in a good way. The better someone gets to know you, the better they see you. It's up to you what kind of person you want to be. Nobody can hide who they really are for very long.

I'll be the rain, falling on your fire escape

Lately I've been observing the social pressures of growing up in St. John's. It's largely money related in Newfoundland, a lot of things are, but I expect the rest of the world is no different.

It seems to be that a portion of people put a great deal of importance on money. choosing to acquire a great deal of education or a trade and get a job with security,  benefits and all the values of being responsible for ones one success. I think that the majority of us realize in our late 20's (mid to late if we are lucky) that in order to live comfortably we want more money. So we work toward a goal more long term for ourselves. Something with some promise of good money, reasonable rewarding work, and a fair amount of time to be spent as one pleases.
Some of these people do physically demanding labour, and work very hard to secure the life they want for themselves and their families. But I will be shocked if you don't know half a dozen lazy, useless, burdens on society who are collecting foolish paychecks for doing nothing except driving a big truck and talking about money. It's not just people in the trades, This just happens to be a prime example that is prevalent in my own community and relatable to anyone local to me, reading this. But it doesn't matter the example. There are people driven by insecurity in all walks of life.
It's basically the typical fate for your high school's alpha males, be it business, sales, physical demanding jobs. All the ways they can prove their masculinity over other males that they are intimidated by. We get it Napoleon. you're dick is huuuuge. We're all super impressed. While we should all strive to be better, being better than everyone will take up far too much of your time to be lucrative in the long run.

The truth of it is money will make your life better. More comfortable. It is not always the most important thing. It's not the only thing anyone needs, don't be stupid.

Everyone needs affection, and love and understanding. We all have the same basic needs for acceptance and pride. but security buys all of those things. and what do you think you need to buy security?

Another large portion of people seem to reject money. I don't know what money ever did to them. Maybe they had a shitty parent who cared more about money then them. that would be a shame. but still, place blame where blame should lie. Seriously.
I used to know some people who called themselves Freegan, but were really a whiny spoiled child version of the actual principle*. Lets call this one...Starburns. Starburns. It's sort of funny. In his mind, I think he sees himself as more of a Vaughn kind of character. but he is most certainly Starburns.

All of any of this rant boils down to is money matters. Without it, people who reject money wouldn't have anything to identify with either. Getting a good job and being comfortable are ok to want. it's not a bad thing to care about money and want to do well. but if you care about it too much one way or the other it turns you into a total douche bag. So don't be a douchebag.

Not so much...

*If it really means that much to you, go live in the woods and farm and live off of the land like less idealistic, smarter versions* of yourselves do. Why do you think your entitled to sign up for cellphones and cable and credit cards, max out all the limits and burn that bridge? You're nothing but a burden on society. increasing further restrictions on the rest of us because you saw an opportunity to take advantage for personal gain.
How Freegan is that? Commit to the life you preach, otherwise your just giving it a bad name. If we're not the ideal society for you, build a bridge

then build a farm.
live on your side of the bridge, on your own farm, providing for yourself, and leave us alone.

Yeah that's more like it..

You probably think this rant is about you

If you've ever catered to a self involved friend, been the adult for your own parent, dated a man child, or had some other person thrust their responsibilities/need onto you you may appreciate this rant. I've needed to get it off my chest for a long time.

We are all responsible for our own happiness. Every human being has the same needs for happiness.
Most of us work very hard, for a long time, and go through a lot of shitty things, and do a lot of jobs we hate, and miss fun nights out making memories with our friends, because we are adults and we have jobs, and it's not the end of the world if we miss one hangover. Not in a legitimate pursuit of happiness.
Most of us go through post secondary education of some kind, because we know we have to put that work in, just like everyone else if we want a more comfortable life down the road.
Most of us have had our heart broken, Been betrayed by someone who meant a lot to us. Some of us struggle with security issues because of poorly handled issues in our past, and still, we carry on in search of love, and companionship and someone to spend our lives with. Looking for that perfect person that you can completely be yourself with for the rest of your life.

So how is it that the self important, juvenile, insecurity ridden, neanderthal still walks the earth? How does one human being manage to slip through that many cracks? We have all experienced one of these people. They thrive on negativity as a means of boosting their ego.

Eg. Girls who weigh less than mannequins saying they are fat, just so people will reassure them that they are beautiful and perfect. Now don't get you're Birkenstock's in a twist, ladies, I'm fully aware of psychological illnesses which give women altered perceptions about how they do/should look. I'm not an idiot. but neither are you. We all know at least one of these girls.
It doesn't make them the scum of the earth. They need to take pride in something and they feel their looks are their strongest assets. I would want to make a person like that feel really smart, so they would take pride in their brain.
Another brutal example is the partner who has trust issues, because his first girlfriend ever cheated on him and he never got over it. Or because her best friend stole her boyfriend so all girls are bitches. Or the guy who tells women that all women cheat and lie and all that disrespectful bullshit.*
That guy hating on his girlfriend and saying she's going to leave him, might be terrified that she is going to find someone better, may he is scared that she'll laugh at him, so he will say he doesn't care if she does, so he'll be winning...somehow?
Maybe that girl is really scared of being mistreated by women, so she guards herself. As if calling yourself a bitch doesn't hurt just as much as someone else saying it to/about you. But if she says it first, and they think that she doesn't care, then maybe nobody will think she's a bitch at all. Maybe they will respect that she thinks for herself and doesn't have any time for fake bullshit, and see what a nice person she is. Or maybe they'll just call her a bitch. Who knows really.
That guy just wants security to know nobody is going to take advantage of him. and that girl wants to have something to take pride in. Something that she really cares about, and takes seriously. To do some good, and have some fun.

*Girls, if you are staying with someone who speaks to you with disrespect, you're just as stupid and ignorant as your redneck/skeet dude boyfriend. Enabling him is not going to make it better. People rarely change on their own. They generally have to lose the things most dear to them to realize what they are doing to the people around them.

Everyone needs something to be proud of. Confidence is a vital need for every single person. Not to be confused with arrogance, a confident person is self assured and comfortable. Open to debate in which new ideas may be exchanged and adopted. The way our whole world moves forward.
If you don't have something that brings you happiness and stress release, then what is the point of living? Find something that makes you happy. Something positive, not drinking or drugs, because that's what you see on tv, and it's dramatic and will make people worry about you. . Grow up and face the issues that make you unhappy like an adult. Everyone deserves to be happy. and we're all responsible for ourselves.

Stitches (Pt2)

Maybe it's only the people who mourn the loss and move on that are truly happy. After awhile it just gets harder to stay so sad and hurt. Especially when someone is working so hard to win you over again. Then again, sometimes, the person doesn't care to win you over again. So maybe I'm full of shit and this is all just a valuable lesson in Barking Up The Wrong Tree, or maybe it's a lesson in Flogging A Dead Horse...gross.
One of the few universal truth of relationships!
You can be in love with whomever you please, but don't assume anyone owes you anything for that if they do not reciprocate your feelings. It sucks. But it is, what it is. Stop dwelling on what you want to work. you'll never find where you're meant to be happy. I'm sure in high school you thought you were in love with a Pierce too, and on some level we were. We were as "in love" as our capacity for human emotion would allow. Maybe becoming more mature and growing up is about figuring out how to love, and who to spend your life with. Your heart should always be twice as full as you're wallet, after all. :)

Stitches (Pt.1)

Pierce.
He cheated on me with my friend after she had spent a couple weeks flirting with him behind my back. In later years, I learned that he had said some awful things about deflowering me. He never ever got the opportunity, just for the record. He did get the chance to do some gardening with my friend though. But that is a sad story, really. and I'm getting off topic...
My point is. I still think about that. I have a will to mistrust, and look for evidence now, and im realizing with my chatting with Annie, that event in my life was something that Was never ever confronted. Nobody ever apologized, or explained. The worst part of it all is 90% of my friends, just all starting hanging out with them. I was the only excluded from the whole thing. That is a feeling, that I, to this day would not wish on my worst enemy.
A feeling of being devalued, and humiliated. My hometown is a small place. one high school. everyone in town, in my age group, knew him. and by proxy, I suppose, they thought they knew me. I'm not trying to say they owe me anything. A few years back he messaged me on facebook and apologized for it all*. But scars are scars. lots of them leave a mark on you for a long time. A few never leave you, and you're forced to have them forever. Sometimes they are an accident. A lesson learned. Sometimes they are self inflicted.
I realized something that I had lost sight of. Today I was finally ready to let go of some things, and to be happy, and to trust. I think everyone goes through a mourning period
sometimes for a loved one who is no longer with us.
Some for the relationship that you want to work so badly but it just won't.
Some for the loss of trust, and security that comes from an infidelity, by a partner or friend.
I think that, the mourning period is different for everyone, and maybe even every situation. This is perhaps why relationships are so much work.

You say you want a resolution...

So it's that time of year where the tv tells me that people are considering their New Years Resolutions and the changes they want to make in the new year. I feel that this is a good thing for people to do. Seeking to better one's life is always a postitive thing as far as I'm concerned, as long as it's a healthy change. Making a resolution to change an aspect of your life is a big deal. It's a great way to move forward and out of a rut. I believe there are a few key guidelines that will make it a more positive experience and help to actually reach the goals we all set!

Set The Bar!
Setting your goals too high may end up becoming discouraging! make sure you're setting a goal that will make a positive change, without it being so drastic that you may not reach it at all. A lot of people make the resolution to lose a great deal of weight or to quit doing something, outright. These are drastic changes in ones lifestyle that are very very hard for even the most strong willed of people to maintain.

Think in Broader Terms
Think of all the small changes you can make in your daily lives to achieve you're goals. For example if weight loss is your goal, you don't need to live on celery. If you want a burger, have the burger! but instead of a giant heap of french fries, have a salad! opt for the healthier option during the week, and treat yourself to a burger on the weekend. What happened to the weekends being fun?

Know Yourself.
Be honest with yourself about the things you are unhappy about. Make a list of thing that you could do differently. I personally like to make a list and have all my options laid out in front of me.

Pat Yourself on the Back!
Sometimes it helps to have visual supports around, stickers on your calender, or notes to yourself when you accomplish minor goals along your path, Can help to encourage you when the going gets tough.

Habit Forming
Try to form new habits such as going for a walk every sunday, or taking the stairs at work or school. Implementing new habits will help you get into a new, healthier routine. thinks like regular meals erlaxation time give our bodies a lot of things we need to be healthy. and never ever discount a good night sleep, as it is invaluable for mind and body

What ever you chose as your New Years Resolution, I hope we can all spend some time thinking about the things we could improve about ourselves. Nobody is perfect, after all, it's in our very nature to strive to advance, in every other aspect of our lives. Why should the way we treat people and the things we do for ourselves not fall into that category?

Hitchin' A Ride

I found this article on twitter the other day. A great read for anyone in a long term relationship! Check it out
A couple different people have asked for my thoughts on marriage.
I do wish to get married. like a lot of people I'm afraid of being used and abandoned by someone I work really hard to make happy. This seems to be a very calloused way of viewing marriage, of course, but not a new one. Getting the proverbial Milk, without buying the Horse is not just about sex, much to the dismay of your staunch, religious Grandmother
If I were to spend entire years of my life caring for someone, and doing all the little things that I, personally, do in a relationship, I would feel as though I'd been grossly taken advantage of, were they to betray me. Being in a relationship, those things are very important to me. Making breakfast in bed when your partner has a big day ahead of them. Or going out in the rain to pay outrageous amount of money to get your lover her favorite flower, on your anniversary, just to see her face light up. These are things that everyone should do to show their loved one, their feelings. How else will they know if you do not show them? use your brain!

The issue I'm raising is, there is no compensation for the hours you spend getting your girlfriend that perfect Christmas gift. There is no insurance you can purchase to protect you and reimburse you for playing Nurse to a boyfriend who has been struck down by illness, self inflicted or otherwise. Take that in whichever context you chose, it's still a valuable gesture.

So naturally, I believe in marriage as a means for showing someone that you (a) value the things they do. (b) you're lucky to have them. and (c) do not want to be without them.
I will always be happy for people who find true love. Love is the purely, shiniest, most amazing thing and nobody should ever feel that they have to force it or hide it. Only the truly insecure and unhappy are made uncomfortable by talk of Love, and the Future. I believe I'm a lot more realistic than I've any right to be,
considering a childhood filled with Barbie's and Disney Movies. I believe there are different reasons that people get married, just like anything else in life.

Home for the Holidays

Tonight began with a discussion about how crazy my grandma is and possible solutions where she would be happy with people of similar lunacy. That, however, is a topic for my book deal in ten years, after I spiral out of control and live exclusively on Hoof Prints, and go into rehab. You can go to rehab for anything now. Did you know that?
So we were talking about how old my Grandma and Grandpa were when they got married, and my dad told me that my Grandmother and her sisters all came to Windsor to work in their early 20's.

I guess that is what you did then. Like how everyone moves to St. John's to bartend and wait tables, with theatre degrees and folkfore B.A's hanging on our parents walls as if they were real and being utilized. But they aren't because we took far more from the experiences of that time, rather than the curriculum we paid for. An entire generation of 20somethings who were told they had no future without a college education, only to be told 5 years later, to Go Back to the Start, with our mountains of debt, and get a trade, if we wanted a career. Does that seem like really brilliant and underhanded advertising to anyone else? I don't know if this is necessarily the less travelled path. I'd hazzard to guess it is far more traveled than that the road that leads you to becoming an engineer or medical professional. I think maybe Im trying to say that, everyone has their own path, and nobody else can tell you where to go. you have to do it yourself or it won't make you happy.

Anyway he realized at that moment that he has no idea how my grandparents met.

I do love Hoof Prints. I wouldn't be staging it like the shit we watch now.
